Squintz - Y Not?

Squintz experiments with his sound further on new album 'Y Not?'

ALBUMS

Squintz has already had a busy 2023, with SQ Sundays giving us a whole load of content from the MC and his project The Waiting Room showing a new side to Squintz's artistic style. He is building further on the experimental lane that he is going down with a surprise birthday album release - Y Not?

Straight out the blocks, I feel like this is Squintz's best work to date. It delivers a fresh sound from the artist, similar to his previous project, but has the full-length durability that I wish The Waiting Room had, because I also liked that one. The title of the project is a theme that runs throughout; it feels like Squintz simply said "Y Not?" and just made whatever was in his mind. From talking about the state of the scene, to personal relationships falling apart, to his relationship with God, Squintz doesn't hold back and just lets himself go on this project and it is so much better for it.

From the production by Yovng Blake, a 17 year old German producer, being predominately laid back and piano-led, to Squintz's deep voice and gliding flows, this project comes together very well and the features on the LP are the cherry on top. Make sure to check this album out above and also check out the birthday set on his YouTube, with MCs such as Jinnal, Bradz on Mic, PeteNotLarry, Outlaw and Skarr shelling down the mic!
